1963年7月4日生まれ。福島県いわき市出身のパーカッショニスト／タブラボンゴ奏者。20代前半はファッション誌「CUTiE」「Olive」や、小泉今日子らを手がけるヘアメイク・アーティストとして活躍。

85年に東京スカパラダイスオーケストラを創設しバンドマスターとして89年にデビュー。93年の脱退後はフリーランスで活動を開始し98年に「ASA-CHANG＆巡礼」を始動。インド・アジア系打楽器から玩具類、ガラクタ、シンセ音などを用いた楽曲にアプローチする彼独特のプレイスタイルを確立し、さまざまな音を散りばめポップとアバンギャルドを軽々と行き来する様々な活動は多くの注目を集めた。2ndアルバム「花」に代表されるような声を歌ではなく音として使った独特の世界観は日本のみならず海外でも非常に高い評価を受けている。

作曲・アレンジャーとしても活躍し多数のアーティスト作品に参加。2015 年よりNHK E テレの音楽教育番組「ムジカ・ピッコリーノ」にレギュラー出演、体当たりな演技と演奏が好評を博す。

Born on July 4, 1963 in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. A percussionist and tabla bongo player from Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, he spent his early 20s working for fashion magazines CUTiE and Olive, and as a hair and makeup artist working with Kyoko Koizumi and others.

In 1985, he founded Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra and made his debut as bandmaster in 1989, and after leaving the orchestra in 1993, he began freelancing and started “ASA-CHANG & Junray” in 1998. He established his own unique style of playing, using Indian and Asian percussion instruments, toys, junk, synth sounds, etc., and his various activities, which lightly move between pop and avant-garde with a variety of sounds, attracted a lot of attention. His unique world view using his voice not as a song but as a sound, as represented by his second album “Hana”, has been highly acclaimed not only in Japan but also overseas.

Since 2015, she has been a regular performer on NHK E-television’s music education program “Musica Piccolino,” where her physical acting and performance have been well received.
